Why Tajweed?

As-salaamu-a-laykum (may peace be upon you)

We pray that you are in the best of health and eemaan.

Love for Quran wants to help everyone understand why it is important to learn Tajweed.

First question is What is Tajweed?

A simple definition: Tajweed means to pronounce every letter correctly with all it’s qualities.

Second question is Why Tajweed?

It is important to learn how to recite Quran properly because Allah (SWT) has commanded it:

‘Recite the Quran with tarteel (measure)’ Surah Muzzammil verse 4
'Read it as it should be read' Surah Baqarah verse 121

Also if a person learns Tajweed, he/she will be safeguarded from making major errors which alter the meaning of the verses recited. An example is given below to help you understand: If you say the word ‘Qolb’ with qawf then the meaning is heart and if it is recited as ‘kalb’ it means dog. Now look at this verse and see for yourselves (the word that changes is bold and underlined):

Example 1 – ‘The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts tremble’.

Example 2 – ‘The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their dogs tremble’.

This is the second verse in Surah Anfaal. There are thousands of examples like this in the Quran. After the above example need we say much more, many people just brush this topic of Tajweed off like it is nothing. I hope this is enough to convince you and leaves no doubt in your mind that this subject is a must for everyone.

Shukran
